Cultural heritage projects - story seeds: cultivating wellness and depth through Indigenous Plant Traditions

This exhibit explores the better-known crops and plants domesticated, developed, and harvested by Indigenous people of the Americas. Weaving together educational resources, photos, historical records, and other sources, it celebrates the food systems that grow cultural narratives, family and community as well as shared connections to the land through agriculture, nutrition, and wellness.

Story Seeds is curated by Métis artist and researcher Vanda Fleury, in partnership with Sarah Ramsden from the City of Winnipeg Archives and Colette Dufault, Winnipeg Public Library. A special thanks to E. Leigh Syms (PhD), Heather Komus, Jarad Buckwold, Jesse Green, Sylvie Bertholet-Dilk, and Jonathan Rash.

It launched at Millennium Library (Winnipeg Public Library main branch), 251 Donald St. in the main floor display cases and ran from June 6 - September 15, 2023. It then circulated throughout Winnipeg’s public libraries throughout 2022 and ‘23. It takes on new life as an online exhibit in the digital landscape of Pathways to Winnipeg History, fall 2023!
