Storylines series - IMagine native, film screening, IN good hands

Program 4 – Grandmother Moon

“Just as Grandmother Moon cares for us, this program illuminates the care-taking women do as grannies, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties, lovers, and friends. The films in the program grapple with both joyous and painful issues, such as birth work, medicine teachings, domestic violence, the Sixties Scoop, MMIWG2S, and sexual liberation. We ARE strong, resilient Indigenous women.”

The poetry-film, ‘In Good Hands’ (2021) is a Métis woman’s expression of birth sovereignty. Punctuated by intimate experiences of motherhood, she traces the storylines of identity to ancestral birthwork, spirit names, and kinship connections. It is a show of resistance that contributes to dismantling colonial narratives that devalue and ignore Indigenous women’s life experiences.
